A poem to the Aurora Borealis

Picture taken in Talkeenta, Alaska March 2024

Vast and quiet spaciousness
Takes over the sky in still bright darkness

Awaiting in anticipation
A star is born

Twinkling in the northeast
Beckoning

Is it clouds or her?
Subtle grey and then green emerge

From nothingness something arises
I hold my breath and wonder if it is real or my imagination

She appears getting brighter in each moment.
Whispering, “Come and play.”

Dancing up and down
Snaking and slithering

Sensual and seductive
Bright and bold

Her expression becomes diffuse
As she fades back into the beautiful blackness

Arising, sustaining and dissolving
Her dance is intoxicating

Heart longing and goosebumps ripple on my flesh
Her song swirls in my heart as she reveals and conceals herself.
